NBA game action

The Miami Heat recorded 86 opening half points versus the Grizzlies

The Heat secured a crushing 146 to 114 win against the Memphis Grizzlies in their first basketball match since player Terry Rozier was arrested for alleged unlawful sports betting.

Trail Blazers coach Billups was also detained as part of a extensive federal investigation into sports betting. Both men deny the allegations.

However, the Heat were focused as they recorded 86 opening half points to lead Memphis by 39 after two quarters, the biggest half-time advantage in the team's 37-year existence.

Adebayo led the way with twenty-four scores and later said Terry had the team's full backing.

"We support him. Complete backing," Bam said. "You support him through and through. That's our brother at the end of the day."

Heat coach Erik Spoelstra commented: "Terry is a person who is very dear to everyone. He has made a beneficial influence on our team.

"We send our thoughts and support for him as he faces the situation."

The Trail Blazers also secured their first game since the detentions, with Brazilian Tiago Splitter stepping in as temporary head coach in Billups' absence and guiding the squad to a convincing 139 to 119 win over the Golden State Warriors.

"We all had great experiences with Chauncey and how he coached," Tiago said. "Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

NBA Commissioner Silver 'Disturbed' by Recent Events

Addressing the detentions for the first time, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he was "deeply disturbed" by the events of the past few days.

"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and supporters than the fairness of the game," he informed a broadcaster. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was disturbing."

Silver further mentioned an league probe into Rozier's actions in spring 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a game he played for the Hornets against the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the gambling firms," he continued.

"We then looked into the matter and were open regarding it. And while there was the unusual wagering, we, frankly, couldn't find anything.

"Federal authorities has subpoena power... [it] can threaten to put people in jail, can do all kinds of things that the NBA is unable to.

"So, we've been working with them from that point. Naturally, what they announced yesterday was an charge.

"Moreover two and a half years later, he has not been found guilty of anything, in justice to Rozier.

"Clearly, it doesn't look good, but he's been suspended, and so it is a compromise here between upholding rights and conducting an inquiry."
