'Enduring a Horrific Ordeal': Relatives of Unaccounted For Teens Await Answers After Ski Resort Blaze
The relatives of teens lost after a deadly blaze at a bar in a Swiss ski resort are enduring an painful period of uncertainty for answers and requesting information about their family members online.
The fire ripped through the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Circulated images depict the roof structure igniting as beverages with sparklers are raised in celebration.
Emergency services have warned that it could take days if not weeks to formally name the those who perished of the fire, which killed four dozen individuals and wounded another over a hundred. A spokesperson said on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with the process ongoing to name the final individuals.
In the interim, relatives have been taking to social media to appeal for any news about their friends who were present at the venue that evening.
Appeals for the Unaccounted For
The fate of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are still unconfirmed, according to an appeal from his parent.
The resident of Lutry near Lausanne, explained to a publication that she had gone back to the city to see if he was in the medical facility, while his other parent did the equivalent search in the capital, but did not locate him.
"This is a living nightmare, an ordeal. The options are finding my son in the hospital mortuary, or I find him in critical condition. It's horrific," she stated.
She explained that some of his peers had been discovered with burns covering a significant portion of their bodies. "There are no words; they went through hell."
The Italy's foreign ministry has confirmed that six of its young people are still unaccounted for.
Among them is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old sportsman, originally from Italy but now living in Dubai.
The national sporting body has said that he is no longer with us, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "young athlete who embodied dedication and authentic values."
His father, is quoted as saying that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An representative has indicated that a official announcement of his death is not yet.

Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also unaccounted for. His parent explained that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with a group and ended up at the bar.
